Tarlochan pursued his higher education in Patiala and PGI, Chandigarh. Thereafter he worked in Saudi Arabia, establishing a cardiology unit in a tertiary care centre there. He proceeded to do his MRCP in the UK before returning to India. He underwent a Senior Fellowship programme at Milwaukee, USA, which allowed him to extend his expertise beyond the area of Interventional Cardiology into Electrophysiology. This fellowship enabled him to establish the dedicated department of Electrophysiology & Pacing at Escorts Heart Institute, the first of its kind in India, in 1993.
